Film Synopsis
The Gospel According to John read by Luis Miguel Cintra, one of the most prominent Portuguese actors. A glimpse at a personal experience of Jesus, filmed outdoors, from dawn to sunset, and materialized in the grain of the voice, the expression, control, rhythm and breath of the actor himself. Director's statement The world cannot hate you: but me it hateth”. We are not theologians, nor do we belong to any religion, but just like everyone else, from those who call themselves Christians to those who declare themselves to be atheists and “free thinkers”, we are all irrevocably steeped in twenty centuries of clericalism and Christian culture. This text which witnesses a personal experience with Jesus causes us to return to the essence of that Word which one day was made flesh and came to live among us. The Gospel of the apostle John offers an account of the dramatic period between the evidence of Christ given by John the Baptist, the resurrection and the assumption and – in relation to which things – “the world itself would not be able to contain the Books that should be written.” Reading, re-reading, filming and recording this text in the open air, in the World, made us live the presence of Christ, freeing us from all external laws that become merely superfluous and from the imprisoning routine of that World which so beleaguered “Him.” This is the experience that we seek to share.
